About The Indian Club - Bahrain

The Indian Club-Bahrain is the oldest, largest and one of the most active expatriate clubs in the Kingdom of Bahrain; founded in 1915, The Club celebrated its Centenary in 2015 with an exciting schedule of varied events and activities, the highlight of which was the hosting of a visit by the beloved Former President of India, the late Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam.

The Indian Club-Bahrain is very much at the heart of the Indian expatriate community in the Kingdom and is regarded as the ‘mother’ of all the Indian clubs, associations and societies that cater for the significant Indian population on the island.

It provides a focus and platform for the diversity of Indian culture both within the Program of Events and Activities it schedules for its own membership and by the provision of The Club as a venue for functions and entertainment organised by other Indian groups in Bahrain.

The Club Reception displays the Bahrain and Indian national flags as well as photographs of both the President of India and the King of Bahrain, highlighting the position that the Club fulfills in joining together the people of both countries.

The Club currently has an active membership of more than 800. The members have access to a wide range of social and sporting facilities and enjoy a large number of cultural, community and sporting events that are organised by The Club’s Executive Committee throughout the year.

The Club’s facilities include a Main Hall; two badminton courts in the Main Hall; a multi-purpose floodlit outdoor hard-court area that is used for a multitude of sports – tennis, football, cricket, hockey, volleyball – outdoor functions and entertainment programs; a snooker room; indoor sports areas for cards, darts, carrom and table tennis; a multi-purpose hall; a gymnasium; a library; a conference room and a Banquet Hall; a family room and a social lounge. In addition to all these, Toastmasters conduct their bi-weekly meetings.

The Club is managed by an Executive Committee elected by its members, consisting of prominent members of the society. The Committee is headed by Mr. Cassius Pereira as the President and Mr. Anil Kumar R. as the General Secretary, very efficient and enthusiastic members of the Club fill rest of the posts.

The Club and its Members are very proud of the contribution that The Club makes to the harmonisation of the different nationalities that reside in The Kingdom.

Following are the major activities of our club:

“The Indian Club – May Queen” is one of the most colourful event on the island which attracts around 3000 spectators from various nationalities. It is one of the premium most beauty contest held on the island open for women of all nationalities. The May Queen, every year, will be carrying a very different flair along with the usual rounds of competition for women competing for the most coveted title of ‘The Indian Club – May Queen’.
The evening also comprises of spectacular dances, fashion walks and eventually crowning of the winner as The Indian Club – May Queen along with attractive prizes for the Runners-up in different categories. Consolation prizes will be given away to all the participants.

This is a level 4A tournament approved by the Badminton World Federation (BWC) and Badminton Asia Confederation (BAC), and world ranking points are awarded to the players. Entries to the tournament, tournament fixtures, the breakdown of prize money, etc., is all governed and controlled by BWC and BAC.

Open Badminton Tournament participated by nearly 150 players from Bahrain, India, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, U.A.E and Syria.

The Indian Club Open Tennis Tournament – The biggest and oldest Tennis Tournament in the island. Developed in to an International Tournament from 1999 since players from GCC countries and India took part.
This prestigious sports tournament lasting for almost a month will give your organization an excellent opportunity to sponsor and avail wide publicity. About 3,000 to 5,000 people of various nationalities are expected to be present during the month long tournament.

The Indian Club 7-A-Side Softball Open Cricket Tournament conducted annually only with the participation of the leading expatriate clubs and institutions in Bahrain. This tournament will be played on a league cum knock out basis and more than 50 teams are expected to vie for the coveted Tournament Trophy. In addition to this, winners and runners-up will walk away with individual awards.

The Indian Club 5-A-Side Football/ Hockey Tournament being organised is one of the major tournaments in our club, participants will be the leading expatriate clubs and institutions in Bahrain. This tournament also will be played on a league cum knockout basis.

A month-long event in which members of the club will be divided in to 5 groups based on the last digit of their Indian Club roll number and these groups will be playing different games with each other. Groups with more points will be awarded Ramadan Goodwill Games Trophy.

It is a great time for all the Kids – safely, securely and professionally managed by The Indian Club. It is approximately 45days programme, which has a full range of exciting, fun and educational activities for the kids, together with a number of field trips, a Sports Evening and a Grand Finale (that link’s in with The Independence Day celebrations).

The activities included in the Summer Camp are art/craft, dancing, cooking, swimming, public speaking, drawing, yoga, singing and many many more.

Onam is celebrated every year at the Indian Club with variety cultural programmes and the traditional Ona-Sadhya will be served in the traditional style in Banana Leaves.

The Indian Club is celebrating Diwali festival every year at the club premises in a colorful manner with lots of cultural and entertainment programmes.

The Christmas Tree function – conducted for the youngsters of the club and their parents to attend a party with The Christmas Father.
Christmas Family get-together: A get-together with dinner and dance for all club members and their family.

New Year Eve Celebrations & Dinner – A nightlong celebration to welcome the New Year attended by the members and their guests.
